PluralEyes alternative

Looking for a PluralEyes alternative?

PluralEyes made multicam sync painless: drop in the footage, press a button, get a timeline. It's no longer being developed. Clam Sync works the same way and is built for today's editors and cameras.

What happened to PluralEyes?

PluralEyes was made by Red Giant, which became part of Maxon. Maxon put it into "limited maintenance mode" in January 2023, meaning no new features, and ended technical support and bug fixes on 1 February 2024. It's no longer sold as a permanent licence. If you still have it, it may keep working, but Maxon doesn't promise it will with newer versions of your editor or operating system.

Facts checked October 2026, from Maxon's own announcements.

What PluralEyes users want from a replacement

  • Start from the footage. No building or exporting a timeline in your editor first.
  • One button for the whole shoot. Every camera and recorder, every take.
  • A timeline straight back into the editor, with each source on its own track.
  • Clear results. Which clips synced, which didn't, and why.

That's exactly how Clam Sync works. Drop in the shoot folder (one subfolder per camera or recorder), press Sync, and export for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer.

And what Clam Sync does on every sync:

  • Exports for four editors: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro (with an optional multicam clip) and Avid Media Composer (AAF linked to your original files).
  • Uses timecode where it agrees with the sound, and places silent cameras by it.
  • Works out wrong camera clocks from the clips that did sync.
  • Measures drift on long takes, syncs drifting clips at the middle and flags them. It doesn't stretch audio.
  • Parks clips that won't sync at the end of the timeline, labelled, with the reason in a report.

Switching from PluralEyes

  1. Organise footage the way you probably already do: a shoot folder with one folder per camera and recorder.
  2. Drag the shoot folder into Clam Sync and press Sync.
  3. Check the colours: green synced, orange drifting, rose not synced. Anything that needs a look is listed with a reason.
  4. Export for your editor and import. See importing into your editor.

Questions

Can I still use PluralEyes?

If you have it installed it may keep working, but it gets no fixes, and Maxon doesn't promise it'll work with newer editors or macOS versions.

Does Clam Sync correct drift?

It measures drift on long takes and syncs drifting clips at the middle, so the error is smallest overall, and flags them. It doesn't stretch audio.

Does it work with my old PluralEyes projects?

No, but you don't need them: drop the original footage in and sync again. It's quick.
